The EK9 shared many characteristics with the Integra Type R DC2/JDM DB8 such as omission of sound deadening and other weight reduction measures, a hand-ported B16B engine, front helical limited-slip differential and a Close-ratio transmission. The first Civic to receive the Type R badge was introduced on August 19, 1997, as the EK9. Like its sibling, the Integra Type R DC2/JDM DB8, the Civic SiR's transformation into a Type R was achieved by working on the base model and improving it to Honda's idea of a car capable of high performance on the circuit. The contributing base model was the JDM Civic 3-door hatchback called the SiR (code-named EK4). The first Civic to receive the ' Type R' nameplate was based on the 6th-generation of the fan-base 'EK' Civic. 6 FL (2022 based on eleventh generation Civic)ĮK9 (1997 based on sixth generation Civic).

#HONDA CIVIC JDM MANUAL#
The 5 speed manual transmission is smooth, with no pop-outs or grinds, and the clutch engages without a hitch. An aftermarket Carbon Fiber intake was installed to increase airflow to the engine and bring out the B16A’s aggressive, raspy tone. Mechanically the car is turn-key ready and all set up to rip your favorite backroad! The B16A engine fires right up and revs smoothly throughout the RPM range with the help of Honda’s famous VTEC variable valve timing technology. Storage space is no issue, either, the rear seats fold down to reveal two cargo trays, and the spare tire well is occupied by yet another cubby for storage.

With only 73,545 kilometres on the clock (45,000 miles!) it’s clear to see why this SiR has been so well preserved over the years. The rest of the interior is stock and damage-free. An alcantara Nardi Steering wheel has been added as well and replaces the cumbersome OEM unit.
#HONDA CIVIC JDM DRIVER#
The lackluster stock seats have been removed, and replaced with a well-bolstered set of DC2 Integra Type R seats, perfect for holding the driver in place throughout tight corners. The interior is also quite clean for the age of the vehicle, and has a few tasteful modifications without being too over the top. The factory steel wheels have been replaced in favor of a clean set of 17” Work Emotion CRKai’s. The exterior of this SiR is mostly stock, as it should be. While this is not an OEM color, it definitely looks appropriate on this clean hatch. The exterior of this car has been freshly resprayed in a classy gunmetal grey finish. A close-ratio 5 speed manual transmission also offers an exhilarating driving experience and pairs quite well with the rev-happy B16. To sweeten the deal even more, this JDM Honda Civic SiR was optioned from the factory with the legendary B16A DOHC VTEC engine, a motor that was unobtanium in the USDM Civic Si. Modifications performed to this vehicle are seldom, and the body is in excellent condition with no defects or rust present. This is a perfect example of a clean, JDM right hand drive civic. Luckily, thanks to the 25 year import rule, US buyers are now able to buy imported models from Japan, and stock low-mileage examples are readily available for purchase on US shores. Either they have high mileage and paint and body defects, or they have been extensively modified well past the factory specifications. Today, in the US, most civics of this vintage have either fallen victim to one of two scenarios. It’s instantly recognizable bubble shape, coupled with track-proven handling and acceleration made this 5th generation civic one of the best performance bargains of the 90’s. The EG6 Civic is one of the most timeless compact car chassis in history.
